THE WAKE UP TIMES

August 2026 | Back to School Edition

Back to School, Back to Your Best

Healthy Sleep. Bright Mornings. Better Learning.

Dear Light Awake Community,

August brings a fresh start—new classrooms, new schedules, new goals, and, of course, earlier mornings.

As families prepare for another school year, backpacks and school supplies may get most of the attention, but one of the most important tools for success is something we already have:

Sleep.

Quality sleep supports learning, memory, attention, emotional regulation, physical health, and the energy students need to make the most of each day.

At Light Awake, we believe a better school day starts the night before.

🌙 The Light Awake Back-to-School Reset

Summer schedules can make the transition to school mornings difficult. Instead of waiting until the night before school begins, gradually reset the family’s sleep-wake rhythm.

1. Return to a consistent bedtime

Move bedtime and wake time toward the school schedule gradually. Consistency helps the body’s internal clock anticipate when it is time to sleep—and when it is time to wake.

2. Start the morning with light

Morning light is a powerful signal to the circadian system that the day has begun. Open the curtains, step outside, or spend a few minutes in natural morning light.

3. Power down before bedtime

Create a calmer final 30–60 minutes of the evening. Dim the lights, reduce stimulating screen use, and transition to relaxing activities such as reading, stretching, or quiet conversation.

4. Prepare tonight for tomorrow morning

Lay out clothes, pack backpacks, prepare lunches, and review the next day’s schedule. A little preparation at night can create a much calmer morning.

🎒 Sleep Is a School Supply

Healthy sleep routine? ✓

Sleep isn’t time taken away from learning. It is part of the learning process.

During sleep, the brain continues important work related to memory and learning. Well-rested students are better prepared to pay attention, process new information, regulate emotions, and participate in the school day.

For teenagers especially, sleep deserves to be treated as an important part of academic and personal performance—not an optional extra.

☀️ The Light Awake Morning Challenge

For the next 7 days, try creating a consistent morning routine:

Wake → Light → Hydrate → Move → Fuel → Go

Keep the wake time consistent, get some morning light, drink water, add a little movement, eat a nourishing breakfast, and begin the day with intention.

Small routines repeated consistently can make mornings feel much more manageable.

❤️ For Parents & Caregivers

Back-to-school transitions affect adults, too.

Try creating a household rhythm rather than focusing only on a child’s bedtime. Reduce late-evening chaos, prepare for the morning together, keep bedrooms cool and dark, and model the sleep habits you want your children to develop.

Children learn routines not only from what we tell them—but from what they see us do.

💡 LIGHT AWAKE SPOTLIGHT

Wake Up Smarter

The traditional alarm clock asks only one question:

“What time should I ring?”

Light Awake is being designed around a bigger question:

“What does this person need for a better sleep, a better wake-up, and a better day?”

Our vision is a more personalized sleep-wake experience that brings together sleep routines, wake timing, light, sound, schedules, and individual preferences.

Because waking up shouldn’t simply interrupt sleep.

It should prepare you for the day ahead.

A Note for Students

A new school year doesn’t require a perfect start.

Some mornings will be rushed. Some nights will run late. Some days will be harder than others.

Keep going.

Your future isn’t built in one morning—it is built through the small choices you make again and again.

Sleep well. Wake with purpose. Learn something new. And make this year yours.

Here’s to a healthy, successful, and Wide Awake school year!
